Community Vegetable Garden Training & Support Program
For Chicago residents who want to eat healthy food they grow themselves in community-run gardens
Hello, Community Food Gardeners,
Openlands will be hosting a gathering for gardeners who participated in the HomeGrown Chicago Community Vegetable Gardening workshops last spring or who may not have attended, but started, tried to start, or worked in Community Food Gardens this year. This is the opportunity for you to share your experiences with each other – what you learned, what you wish you had known or done before the shovel hit the ground! And what you want to do next season.
From what we have heard and observed, you will really want to hear everyone’s experiences …a lot of work was done and many lessons learned.
WHEN: October 23, 2010 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
WHERE; The Egyptian Room of the Washington Park Field House, 5531 S. King Drive
WHAT: This gathering is for sharing garden experiences and lessons learned as well as plans for the future, and then, if weather permits, we will move to the Bronzeville Community Garden at 51st & Calumet for lunch, or after lunch for a tour.
11:00 am – Sign in and Coffee
11:15 – 11:30 – Introductions
11:30 – 12:45 – Sharing experiences starting, caring for and using the garden
12:45 – 1:15 – Plans for next year: What will you do differently or start to do for a more successful garden next season? What would help you do a better job?
1:15 – 2:00 Potluck Lunch (in the Field House or in the Bronzeville Community Garden)
Chef Emmanuel Tsadakeeyah (one of the designers and builders of the Bronzeville Community garden) will provide a centerpiece dish for our luncheon and we invite you to share some of the bounty from your own gardens and your favorite dishes as well.
Please RSVP to Glenda Daniel at Openlands by October 20th so we can reserve a space for you and any other gardeners in your group who would like to attend. Glenda’s phone number is 312/863-6255 and her email is email@example.com
Space is limited. So don’t delay!
